The BC College of Family Physicians (BCCFP) welcomes the provincial government’s efforts to recruit more family doctors, including today’s initiative to attract US-trained physicians. However, we know that recruitment alone won’t solve BC’s primary care crisis.
Every British Columbian deserves a family doctor, and that requires a long-term strategy focused on training, as well as recruitment, and retention.
“We urge the government to invest in long-term policy changes that improve access to a family doctor,” says BCCFP President Dr. Katherine Bell, “and we look forward to working with Minister Osborne and the provincial government to make that happen.”
