Dear Family Medicine Residents across British Columbia,

This week is all about celebrating you and your extraordinary contributions to health care in BC. You have chosen a path that is both challenging and deeply rewarding.

The journey through residency can be demanding, requiring long hours, relentless learning, and personal sacrifices. Yet, through it all, you continue to demonstrate compassion, adaptability, and an unwavering commitment to your patients and communities. Your contributions do not go unnoticed, and your impact extends far beyond the clinic walls.

At the BC College of Family Physicians, we are proud to support and celebrate you. As part of this appreciation, I encourage you to apply for the BCCFP Residents Award, which recognizes outstanding family medicine residents who exemplify excellence in patient care, advocacy, and leadership. It is an opportunity to highlight and celebrate the incredible work you do every day.

In a time when our health care system faces immense pressures, your decision to pursue family medicine represents hope for the future. You are not only building your own careers – you are strengthening the very foundation of primary care in British Columbia.  The principles of family medicine are the principles of good health care for all.  As family medicine residents and future family physicians, it is not just where you work or the type of medicine you practice, it is how you carry those values of patient centered, whole person, community based care into your work that makes you family physicians.

As you continue your journey, please remember that your well-being is just as important as the care you provide. Take the time to prioritize yourself, seek support when needed, and lean on the community that values and respects you.

Thank you for your hard work, your passion, and your commitment to family medicine. You are the future of our profession, and we are grateful for everything you do.

With deepest appreciation,

Dr. Katherine Bell, MD CCFP
BCCFP President
