Candidates

Dr. Ana Boskovic (Up for Re-Election)

I have had the honour of being a representative on this Board for six years as a medical student, resident, elected Board member, and now Secretary. Currently in my first five years of practice, I am a longitudinal family physician with a practice in New Westminster, while also working alongside a collaborative group of physicians providing primary obstetrical care at Royal Columbian Hospital. I also enjoy interacting with medical students and residents as a clinical instructor and mentor. Outside of work, I can be found exploring playgrounds with my family, trying new coffee shops and restaurants, and planning our next travels.

During my time on the Board, my main focus and passion has always been strong advocacy for our specialty. The rapid changes that are occurring in our province's health care system are shifting the landscape of primary care and Family Medicine, and I feel that an ongoing strong voice for our profession is crucial. Since first joining the BCCFP Board, I have seen firsthand the progress made by the organization, and I hope to continue contributing to this momentum. Thank you for your consideration!

Dr. Ana Boskovic (Up for Re-Election)

Dr. Barjinder Singh Sohal

After 25 years in family medicine, including more than a decade running a full-service practice in Ontario, I have had the privilege of experiencing our profession from both the diverse frontline and leadership perspectives. As physician lead and medical executive lead for two community clinics, I learned to balance budgets, staffing and the needs of physicians and patients. I moved to BC in 2018 and have called it home since. I also serve as a physician peer support leader, helping colleagues through challenging times.

My work centres on longitudinal chronic care, and I've seen first-hand how much better patients do when care is multidisciplinary. I believe those teams work best when family physicians lead them, with the autonomy to exercise our clinical judgment. As more providers take on parts of primary care, family physicians need a clear, confident voice for the value of comprehensive, longitudinal care, and I want to help provide it.

Outside medicine, I'm a husband and father to two boys, and we share our home with two dogs. I believe in staying active in body, profession and community, and our family loves travelling and the outdoors.

I'd be honoured to serve on your Board.

Dr. Barjinder Singh Sohal

Dr. Caroline Barclay

I am a UK trained family physician who moved to Vancouver in August 2021 with my husband and 3 young children. I work in North Vancouver. I have a masters in Sports Medicine and am very passionate about sports and exercise. I am a big soccer fan! I love preventative health and lifestyle medicine and enjoy working with patients to improve their lifestyle with the aim of reversing chronic diseases such as obesity and diabetes. I enjoy practical procedures such as performing joint injections. I also enjoy women's health and am a big advocate for peri menopause and menopausal treatments as so many symptoms get dismissed. You will find me at my kids soccer games or in the gym at the weekends and we absolutely love family hikes on the North Shore.

Dr. Caroline Barclay

Dr. Charmaine Ma

As a family physician, GP oncologist, and academic faculty, my career is defined by a deep commitment to comprehensive patient care, medical education, and professional advocacy.

My training began at the UBC, where I completed my undergraduate degree in Pharmacy followed by my MD. Seeking a global perspective on healthcare delivery, I pursued postgraduate family medicine training in Singapore and Hong Kong before returning home to complete my residency at St. Paul's Hospital.

Today, I serve as a GP Oncologist at BC Cancer and continue to practice family medicine in Vancouver, with an emphasis on preventative medicine. Alongside clinical work, I hold academic roles as the Vancouver Fraser Co-Site Director for the residency program and lead the provincial Portfolio assessment pillar for undergraduate medicine at UBC. I am deeply passionate about the diverse aspects of family medicine and am dedicated to advocating for family physicians. I would be honoured for the opportunity to bring this breadth of clinical, international, and provincial leadership experience to this role.

Dr. Charmaine Ma

Dr. Erin Carlson

I'm a family physician, mother of two school-aged kids, and someone who has had the privilege of practising across a number of very different communities in BC. After training in and around Prince George in the UBC Northern Medical Program, I spent 10 years providing rural longitudinal care on Galiano Island, an experience that shaped how I think about family medicine, continuity, community, and the importance of different models of care. I now live and practise in Langley, where my family keeps me grounded and my clinical work keeps me connected to the day-to-day realities of family medicine.

Alongside clinical practice at Foundry Langley, locums to support colleagues, and with the FNHA Virtual Doctor of the Day program, I serve as Co-Chair of the Rural and Remote Division of Family Practice and participate in health authority, community, and provincial leadership tables. These experiences have taught me the value of listening, creating space for different perspectives, bringing creativity and problem solving, and finding common ground when issues are complex.

I care deeply about ensuring family physicians feel valued, connected, and able to shape the future of our profession.

Dr. Erin Carlson

Dr. Geetha Gupta

As a dedicated and practicing Family Physician in Langley, British Columbia, I hope to join the board of BCCFP. Throughout my years in primary care, I have experienced first hand, the evolving landscape of Family Medicine in the community, and I am eager to contribute my clinical perspective and advocacy experience to support our profession.

In my current practice, I navigate the daily realities of patient care, resource constraints and health system shifts. This frontline vantage point has equipped me with deep understanding of the systemic challenges facing Family Doctors today, from compensation models to sustainable practice workflows.

Beyond clinical care, I have actively engaged with the medical community. I was one of the Founder Board Members of Langley Division of Family Practice. Since then, I have been actively involved in Langley Memorial Hospital MSA, Langley Foundry, mentoring residents and medical students and contributing to Quality Improvement Projects.

I am drawn to the BCCFP because of its vital role in representing the economic and political voice of Family Physicians. If appointed, I aim to bring a collaborative, pragmatic forward-thinking approach to board discussions-ensuring that the diverse needs of both new-in practice and seasoned physicians are heard and acted upon.

Dr. Geetha Gupta

Dr. Irfan Rajani

I came to family medicine by way of community pharmacy. I trained at UBC, then studied medicine at the University of Limerick in Ireland, continuing to work in pharmacy for part of that time. Pharmacy still shapes how I think about care: a treatment only helps if someone can obtain it, afford it, understand it and fit it into their life. I returned to Victoria for residency and have made my home here.

My practice has taken quite different forms. I have cared for a panel of patients over years, worked with refugees and in urgent and sexual health care, and now see patients in Esquimalt and through the First Nations Health Authority's Virtual Substance Use and Psychiatry Service. I appreciate both the relationships that develop through continuity and the responsibility of being useful when you may meet a patient only once.

Outside work, I enjoy exploring unfamiliar cities on foot, usually with a camera and an interest in their history and food. I've also always liked teaching. Before working with medical learners at UBC, I coordinated young volunteers helping seniors learn to use computers.

Dr. Irfan Rajani

Dr. Joseph Bajela

Dr. Joseph Bajela is a family physician, educator, and physician leader whose career spans three continents and rests on one conviction: strong family medicine is the foundation of a healthy health system.

A graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University in Nigeria, he completed family medicine residency in England's East Midlands, earning his MRCGP before practising as a GP and GP Tutor with Keele University Medical School. He brought that experience to British Columbia, where he holds CCFP certification.

Dr. Bajela is a Clinical Assistant Professor with the UBC Faculty of Medicine and a clinical educator at Kelowna General Hospital, where he mentors future physicians and has developed peer-to-peer teaching resources for family doctors who supervise learners.

In the Okanagan, he co-founded EB Medical Clinics in Kelowna and West Kelowna and serves as Medical Director, building team-based, patient-centred clinics and recruiting physicians, including internationally trained colleagues, to expand access to care. His MSc in Public Health with Social Action grounds his leadership in equity and population health.

On the Board, Dr. Bajela will bring frontline insight, a practical understanding of practice sustainability, and a strong voice for community-based and internationally trained family physicians throughout BC.

Dr. Kuljit Kaur Sajjan

I am a family physician in Vancouver with 16 years of experience in full-service family practice. Prior to this, I worked as a locum in urban and rural communities for 8 years across BC, gaining firsthand experience with different funding models. I chose my current practice because its 26 year population-based funding (PBF) pilot supported team-based care, timely access, and continuity for patients. Alongside my clinical work, I have taught family medicine residents for 16 years and served on the Vancouver Division of Family Practice Membership Committee for over a decade. These roles have reinforced my commitment to supporting colleagues, mentoring future family physicians, and strengthening our profession.

Dr. Romina Moradi (Up for Re-Election)

I am a family physician practising longitudinal family medicine in Vancouver. My patient panel consists largely of individuals from marginalized communities. I have been involved with the BCCFP since residency and have had the privilege of serving on its Board for the past three years. I have experience advocating at the legislature and participating in media interviews to highlight the challenges facing family physicians and improve access to care for British Columbians. I would be grateful to continue building on the momentum we have created as a Board.

Outside of clinical practice, I am engaged with UBC, particularly supporting IMG residents with their ROS contracts. This role has given me experience in building strategic partnerships with the Ministry of Health and health authorities.

I have been a strong advocate for family medicine since residency, when I served as the provincial IMG Lead Resident. Our advocacy efforts played a role in the development of the NTP contract and in advocating for its eligibility to be extended to IMG physicians, who were initially excluded.

Dr. Romina Moradi (Up for Re-Election)

Dr. Serena Verma (Up for Re-Election)

Greetings, I have been a family physician in BC for over 18 years and am so impressed with the care, passion, advocacy, and adaptability of family physicians across the province. Through my work with many medical organizations and committees, I have had the privilege to meet and work with physicians across the province. I have previously worked with the BCCFP, Divisions of FP, UBC/CPD, Doctors of BC, and the UBC Family Practice Program. I am very grateful to have attended a Compassionate Leadership Training Program and am humbled to hear the stories of my colleagues. I am aware of the many challenges we are faced with and have had the opportunity to meet with various members of the government in efforts to advocate for the value of family physicians. As a BCCFP Board member I hope to further advocate and work towards addressing these.

Dr. Winnie Su

I love family medicine. I grew up in East Vancouver, studied at SFU with original plans to become a teacher or a vet, then felt called into medicine. I completed both my MD (2000) and my Family Practice residency at UBC (2002), then began a full-service longitudinal family practice in 2003 in Kitsilano, Vancouver. Our group practice (which I co-owned with colleagues) served over 6000 patients for over 23 years before I recently left my panel. For over 20 years, I have mentored and taught countless medical students and residents. I earned my Clinical Assistant Professorship in 2009 and certified as a Fellow (CFPC) in 2013. In 2020, I began serving as a member of the PCN 4 steering committee (VDoFP). This year, I was honoured to receive the BCCFP My Family Doctor award (Vancouver). Recently, I was also appointed as the Family Medicine Director (Years 1/2) for the Vancouver Fraser Medical Program and started a role (Assessment lead) with the UBC FP Residency (Vancouver Fraser) program. I am deeply passionate about empowering family physicians in "doing an impossible job, impossibly well" through education, mentorship, and advocacy.
