The Viral Hepatitis Testing guideline is available for External Review until July 15th, 2019. This is a revision of the Viral Hepatitis Testing guideline in collaboration with the BC Centre for Disease Control. The guideline outlines the use of laboratory tests to diagnose acute and chronic viral hepatitis in adults (≥19 years) in the primary care setting. It provides screening recommendations for certain population groups disproportionately affected by hepatitis C virus infection.

Key updates include:

  • A recommendation for one-time birth cohort testing for those born between 1945-1965.
  • A new table to assist with diagnosis by providing testing recommendations based on risk factors.
  • An appendix of recommended tests for individuals already diagnosed with viral hepatitis.
  • A patient hand out called “Hepatitis C: should you get tested?”.

Please visit the BC Guidelines External Review page to download the draft guideline and submit your feedback via our new online questionnaire.
