Today’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), held via video conference, updated members on the highlights of the BCCFP’s work in 2019/20 and introduced the BCCFP Directors that will serve you in the coming year.
Our thanks to all of our members who voted in the Board election. We are pleased to introduce two new Directors: Drs. Serena Verma and Vincent Wong. Dr. Sean Wachtel has been re-elected.
Dr. Serena Verma has been a family physician in BC for over a decade. She is inspired by the care, advocacy, and adaptability of family physicians across the province. Dr. Verma is fascinated by the many innovations in family medicine. As a BCCFP Board member, she hopes to advocate and work towards addressing the challenges faced by family physicians
Dr. Vincent Wong is a family physician in the Lower Mainland. He keeps himself busy alongside his practice by precepting learners at the UBC Health Clinic, teaching family practice and clinical skills seminars. As a BCCFP Board member, he hopes to inspire colleagues not only to be the best they can in their important roles, but also to seek a more sustainable and efficient system for improved population health.
Dr. Sean Wachtel is a family physician and public health specialist. He currently works in rural and remote family practice and on health systems and other public health issues for the First Nations Health Authority. As a practicing rural physician, Dr. Wachtel understands the pressures faced by family physicians. He has wide experience of governance, policy, primary care and public health research. Dr. Wachtel returns to the BCCFP Board for a second term.
We bid a fond farewell to Dr. Paul Mackey, whose Board term came to an end. We wish Dr. Mackey all the best and thank him for his years of service.
