Access to a family doctor is fundamental to a sustainable, functioning health care system
On May 19, 2022, the BC College of Family Physicians (BCCFP) met with legislators in Victoria to sound the alarm on the health care crisis in BC, and to call on government to work with the BCCFP and family doctors to keep the system from collapsing around us.
As Canada’s premiers gather for two days of talks in Victoria, we are once again asking that government commit to immediate action to ensure quality health care remains accessible to all British Columbians — now and into the future.
Evidence shows that people who have an ongoing relationship with a family doctor have better health outcomes and cost the system less. Access to a family doctor is fundamental to a sustainable, functioning health care system.
Solutions at all levels of government must acknowledge the foundational role family doctors play in our health care system, and must be informed by the experience and expertise of family doctors in BC.
We need to see collaboration and transformation of the system, now.
British Columbians cannot afford to wait any longer.
