BCCFP welcomes Dr. David May as President for the 2021/22 year. Dr. May joined the BCCFP Board in 2016 and was re-elected in 2019, most recently serving as Vice President. He has been a family physician in rural BC for more than 30 years, with CAC in palliative care and family practice anesthesia and a consulting practice in chronic pain.

As President, Dr. May looks forward to continuing the BCCFP’s work of promoting the value of family medicine and advocating for all British Columbians to have access to a well-supported family physician.

“There is clear evidence that longitudinal relationships with family physicians lead to better overall health outcomes, higher patient satisfaction, and reduced costs to the system,” says Dr. May. “Yet, we have seen a worrying erosion of support for comprehensive family medicine in our province. The BCCFP Board will continue to push for family medicine to receive the recognition and support that it deserves.”

Dr. May is joined by Dr. Justine Spencer as Vice President, Dr. Vincent Wong as Secretary and Dr. Katherine Bell as Treasurer.

Special thanks to outgoing President, Dr. Marjorie Docherty. As our first “Zoom President” Dr. Docherty has provided outstanding leadership during an especially challenging time. She will now serve as Past President.
