Black History Month in Canada is a time to reflect on the significant contributions of Black Canadians while also acknowledging the inequities that persist within society, including in healthcare. Family medicine plays a crucial role in addressing these inequities, as family doctors are often the first point of contact for patients and serve as advocates for their health and well-being.

Representation in family medicine is vital to ensuring that Black Canadians receive culturally competent care. Black family doctors not only offer much-needed support for their communities but also act as role models, demonstrating leadership and resilience. By recognizing Black family doctors and their contributions, we honor their vital role in providing equitable care that makes a lasting impact on the healthcare system.

This Black History Month, the BCCFP celebrates Black physicians across BC and is committed to working towards a more inclusive and equitable healthcare system for all.
