We are pleased to share that Tuesday, May 19, 2020 has been proclaimed as Family Doctor Day in British Columbia.
The date coincides with World Family Doctor Day, the international day of celebration set by the World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA).
As part of the celebration, we’ll be sharing stories about the role of family medicine and the importance of the patient-doctor relationship in the news media and on our social media channels. We will also be announcing the recipients of this year’s BCCFP peer- and patient-nominated awards, which recognize exceptional family physicians and residents from across the province.
This year, we also wish to acknowledge and thank allied health care workers across British Columbia for their extraordinary efforts in response to COVID-19.
Since the onset of the pandemic, family doctors have rapidly adapted to provide virtual care and safe in-person visits to their patients. It has never been more important that British Columbians take care of their health and call their family doctor as needed. The My Family Doctor Cares website lets the public know that ‘your family doctor is IN’ and gives advice on booking and preparing for a family doctor appointment.
Please join us in celebrating family doctors on May 19.
